How do we see far into the past of the universe using telescopes?

the further away the object you look at the longer back in time ur looking. it is possible to look so far back in time due to the universe being so vast that it takes countless amounts of time for light to travel the length of the universe. it is theoretically possible with an extremely powerful telescope that we may be able to see the big bang but the technology at the moment is well off this.
